Many High School Principles have little interest in making sure
their students are exposed to and comfortable with the latest computers. Principle Richard P. Jean of Archbishop
Edward A. McCarthy High School is the exception to the rule, making sure his students
have access to iPads and learn how to comfortably use them.

There's no doubt that the world is more connected everyday and
people who don't understand how to use computers competently are at a huge
disadvantage. This makes it especially important for students to learn these
skills, to better prepare them for success.
Sadly, not many High School Principles are fully committed to working
hard to get their students access to the tools they need to learn these
life-enhancing skills. Principle Richard P. Jean of Archbishop Edward A.
McCarthy High Schools in South West Ranches of Broward County, Florida takes the
opposite approach, passionately embracing the latest technology and making sure
his students get access to them the highest level possible. This has resulted in his students being able
to work with and learn to use Apple iPads, which is certainly a real
breakthrough, considering how popular they are in the business world and
beyond. Principle Jean has won wide
praise for his drive in this area and the value it has provided to the students
he is responsible for.
“Being able to obtain the iPads for our high school students
over a year ago now and setting up iLabs for their use is something I am very
proud of,” commented Principle Jean. “The students love it, their parents
appreciate what we are doing, and we are sure Apple is happy to know that their
iPads are being used to improve the education of our students here in our
schools in Broward County.”
Principle Jean is proud to have been a recipient of the National
Catholic Education Association award for Educational Excellence, being only one
of five principles in the nation to receive this honor for his integrity and
hard work.
The drive to continue to “embrace technology to the fullest” is
something that will continue at Archbishop Edward A. Mcarhty High Schools under
the guidance of Principle Jean, who takes a great deal of pleasure in knowing
just what they have accomplished with bringing in the iPads up until now is something that was said by many “could
never be done”. He prides himself in
accomplishing the seemingly impossible when it comes to delivering true value
to his high school's students, who are the living embodiment of the bright
future of the local community.
Parents couldn't be happier with these developments.
Christine S., from Broward, remarked, “My son doesn't have a
computer at home, yet, so his being able to learn how to use an iPad in school
is amazing. I can tell it has boosted
his confidence and self-esteem and I thank Principle Richard P. Jean for doing
the hard work to make it possible.”
